Patmiada Ecclesiastical School

Patmiada Ecclesiastical School

Patmiada Ecclesiastical School is one of the first religious schools in Greece. It was founded in 1713 by the cleric Makarios Kalogeras and was housed initially in the Cave of the Revelation.

Makarios, who had a close relationship with the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Constantinople, was the first headmaster of the School till his death in 1737.

The School encountered lots of difficulties not only during the Turkish Occupation, but also around the turn of the century, and was for a time moved to Samos. Nowadays, although the financial problems are immense, the School continues its operation near the place of the Revelation.
